Science is Fun Fridays!

While going about its business on Mars, Curiosity caught sight of this tiny specimen, smaller than a penny, of what scientists believe is an ancient flower-like rock.

Found on the slopes of Mount Sharp in Gale Crater, it was likely formed millions of years ago, in the watery past.

On this map, Curiosity is marked at the Gale Crater, whereas Perseverance is exploring the Jezero Crater.  It is currently en route to its next science campaign in the delta.  One goal is to sample a Ch'al type rock, a higher standing boulder that possibly represents a unique geologic chapter in the crater floor history.

This is the view of a hill in the crater that has been named Santa Cruz, and these are the Ch'al rocks, which is a Navajo term for "frog."
