  Yesterday I mentioned that exodus had begun off the playa, and at home we were all talking about how the man has never not burned, even during the pandemic shutdown.  We were getting the impression it was cancelled, but it burned last night, and tonight will be the temple. This year's theme was Animalia.  In honor of ourselves, the many species that live among and around the desert, as well as the deities that humans have long looked up to. Burning Man's Principle of Immediacy speaks to embracing "a natural world exceeding human powers," suggesting that our humanist values don't and can't tell the whole story of our culture.  The 10 Principles  are an attitude of compassion, cooperation, and respect for all life.  Since it's a short week, we're gonna have a little fun today. I've been saving some looks that fit with the end of summer, festivals, and of course, Burning Man. Paris Hilton on the playa. Earlier this summer, there was Miami Swim Week, and the Black Tape Project. Some see it as tacky, others consider it art. Joel Alvarez is the founder and pioneer.  He offers seminars and sells exclusive tape. His page doesn't have images from this year, but here's a few from a previous gallery. I really like the mosaic ones. Something else that's been mentioned has been a hit at the likes of Coachella. *For the record, glitter is not okay at Burning Man.  No feathers either. Okay at Glastonbury though. https://www.blacktapeproject.com/ So, it is fashion?  In my opinion, anything we put on ourselves to cover and/or express ourselves is fashion, even if it barely covers.

  Techno is celebrated today in honor of its founder, Juan Atkins, who was born on this day in 1962. His first band, Cybotron, released an album in 1981.  He released his own work as Model 500 in 1985.  It was in the studio that he met Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, now known as the Belleville Three. Techno has never really been my thing but I did get into KMFDM for a bit, which is considered a kind of industrial techno. And when I was in high school, somebody got me into Lords of Acid for a minute. And then of course, there was Burning Man. There's no real escaping the techno beats out there, and we reached a point where it was soothing - we kinda missed it when we came home.  Above, is Distrikt Camp - pretty much an all day party.  Today would be Tutu Tuesday out on the playa, but there is no Burning Man this year, everything's been cancelled.  There will be a  Burn Night though - live from home on September 5. The Burning Man community is doing a lot to try and help the small town of Gerlach - they rely on Burning Man travelers to make money, and without them coming through, on top of Coronavirus losses, they'll be hurting this year. Anyone who tells you this is just a hippie drug party in the desert, you can be sure they've never been.  It's also not like a Coachella festival - it's an event that asks you to participate rather than just walk through, for the fun and the work.  You can voluntee...
