RenoVous

  With many thanks to Eolone for introducing me to this to artist, I wanted to share my dive into his channel. Welsh singer/rapper-songwriter-musician, Ren. He has an ongoing saga of dark London tales, domestic violence and street crime. It started with Violet, to which he added Jenny and Screech. More recently he shared Vincent's Tale, with Richard's coming soon. From his album, Sick Boi .  The end made me cry. As you can tell, he's an amazing storyteller - a slam poet, a gifted guitarist.  He really makes you feel what he's delivering.  I am glad to have found him.

  On this day in 1937, the first electric guitar patent was awarded on this, the Rickenbacker Frying Pan. Adolph Rickenbacker of Electro Swing Instrument Corp partnered with GD Beauchamp to transform the acoustic guitar.  Among brass bands, it was simply too quiet. The unique design is the Frying Pan's "pickup," a heavy electromagnet that surrounded the base of the steel strings like a bracelet.  This converts the vibrations of the strings into electrical signals, which can then be amplified. Commercial production began before the patent though, in 1932. By 1936, Gibson was producing their ES-150 (Electric-Spanish), so by the time the patent went through for Beauchamp, his innovation was obsolete.

  Guitar with Inlays I knew I wanted to do an art post today, so I told Google I was feeling artistic, and it brought me to this painting by Juan Gris, 1925.  "An example of the mastery Gris attains in Synthetic Cubism."  It now resides in the Museo Reina Sophia in Madrid, Spain. He did quite a few pieces with a guitar. I picked this postcard up on campus years ago, it was an exhibition advertisement, and it clearly used Picasso for inspiration. Currently on my wall, yes. Google
