Weekend 250

Image
Despite the ridiculousness in the White House right now and a strong desire to not celebrate these United States, this weekend is a pretty big deal. "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it." -Mark Twain Open Thread since I'll be off tomorrow and Monday.  We're going down to Vegas - not for the 4th in particular, but other scheduled plans. For Science is Fun Fridays: Benjamin Franklin is widely considered the first American scientist, which was rooted in natural philosophy.  He founded the American Philosophical Society with the purpose of "promoting useful knowledge." My Shots - Almost Summer

Image
It's been a morning at work, and I'm not too inspired by any of the day's topics, but summer starts on Sunday and you know we've already been enjoying the outdoors. Hot days and long nights. So this can be whatever you want today - history, music, summer vibes, whatever. 😊

Midsummer Day

Image
Though the solstice already occurred, today marks Midsummer. The differences are thought to stem from variations in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. Anyway, I'm catching up at work today.  :-)

My Shots - Happy Summer!

Nothing better than some cool water on a hot day. Be that the Truckee River, or our desert reservoirs. Sun Dogs.  ^_^ Official solstice is at 1:50pm Pacific Time.

My Shots - Rye Patch

Swimsuit Open Thread

"Red, white, and Bud." Since I'm off tomorrow for the 4th, I figured we'd make this a fun one. More recently: Miuad Rhude Chanel Burberry Adidas Milpali Miami Swim Week  starts tomorrow.

Fashion - After the Burn

Image
Since it's a short week, we're gonna have a little fun today. I've been saving some looks that fit with the end of summer, festivals, and of course, Burning Man. Paris Hilton on the playa. Earlier this summer, there was Miami Swim Week, and the Black Tape Project. Some see it as tacky, others consider it art. Joel Alvarez is the founder and pioneer.  He offers seminars and sells exclusive tape. His page doesn't have images from this year, but here's a few from a previous gallery. I really like the mosaic ones. Something else that's been mentioned has been a hit at the likes of Coachella. *For the record, glitter is not okay at Burning Man.  No feathers either. Okay at Glastonbury though. https://www.blacktapeproject.com/ So, it is fashion?  In my opinion, anything we put on ourselves to cover and/or express ourselves is fashion, even if it barely covers.

Fashion - Summer Style

Image
Issa Rae Selena Gomez From Miami Swim Week Word is that crochet is the summer trend. Katie Holmes Men too. This extends to beach bags and purses as well. In other trends, the white tank top returns. Chris Evans Kaia Gerber And I keep seeing Dua Lipa referenced for her summer style. She believes in long gloves for all seasons.

My Shots - Summertime

Free concerts at the Glow Plaza. Walks in the park. And a random find, rosebud down.

Book Club - July

Image
Have I mentioned my goal to read every Stephen King book?  I've read more than 50, and I'm working on another one down! #ConstantReader When I'm out and about without my book, I've been pulling up Taha's recommend: Spying in High Heels It is written with such a flair that I find myself giggling here and there.  I'm up to Chapter 7. Is there a summer read you remember fondly from the past? I remember reading IT one summer, and it may have even been the first King I read because I know it was before high school.  During my college years I would spend summer lunches reading in the park that was near my work.  How I loved the Arboretum. In the next couple weeks, we'll see about starting a summer read-along.  :-)
