Animal Life - Fox Dog

In 2021, rescuers brought what they assumed to be a dog to a local vet in Brazil.  The animal wasn't really behaving like a dog, and for the area, didn't really look like a dog.

In South America, the bush dogs have small rounded ears, whereas a maned wolf is much taller with a reddish-brown coat.

Once she was healed, they noted that she preferred climbing in bushes and eating rats.  She barked, but that was about the only thing dog-like.

Genetic evidence now confirms this is a hybrid between a domestic dog and a pampas fox.  The mitochondrial DNA suggests the mother was the fox.  This is the first documented case of such a mix.

She has been dubbed Dogxim, or Graxorra in Portuguese.

Sadly, it appears she has passed way, but the death had not been reported.  The Secretariat of Environment and Infrastructure has opened an investigation.
