Science is Fun Fridays!

Northern basket star - a species of brittle star related to starfish, but they move across the sea floor a bit differently.

Unlike the starfish, the basket star can use their flexible arms to crawl along.

They also use their arms to latch onto prey, such as krill and small crustaceans.  They like to perch on soft coral and sponges, but they can also be found on the sea floor with their arms extended to form a kind of basket trap.  In this next video, you can see one snag a fish.

The snack will be moved down to the star's mouth, as seen here.

Just a cool looking creature I wanted to share with you all!
