Girl Scout Day

Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low when she organized the first Girl Guide troop in Savannah, Georgia.

Stated mission: To build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Low wanted girls to get outdoors and become more independent and resourceful.  She organized camping trips and community service.  The girls mastered skills and received badges of commendation.

In 1917, the first cookies were sold as a way for a troop in Oklahoma to finance activities.  It has evolved into a entrepreneur program, teaching kids goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.  Sales also enable collaboration and integration, working together towards common goals.

On the side there you can see the current mission still includes outdoors and life skills as well as entrepreneurship - and STEM.  "Giving girls the know-how to invent the future."

100% of the revenue raised from cookie sales stays with the local council and troops.

Troop 6000 serves NYC shelters, and there's a link to purchase cookies.
