Woodstock

On this day in 1969, Woodstock opened.

Dairy farmer, Max Yasgur, allowed access to 600 acres of his land in Bethel, which is about 50 miles from the intended location of Woodstock, NY.

More than 400,000 people arrived for the event, which kicked off with Richie Havens.

Perhaps one of the most famous moments from the stage was Jimi Hendrix's performance, especially the medley which included The Star Spangled Banner.

Hendrix was not meant to close the show - the organizer wanted Roy Rogers to end with Happy Trails but he declined.
