Music Tasting 16

Image
I had this poster on my ceiling starting in 1996, shortly following the release of this debut single. I had the cassette of course, and the follow up album. And to this day, my favorite Bond song. She's singing that song in this epic photo I got when I saw them live in 2018. This all leads to tasting their new release, which came out just last week. Garbage

Book Club - June

Image
It just occurred to me that I hadn't touched base for June! I'm about to finish the above book, after completing Obsessed  by the same author. Interestingly, obsession is a theme in this book as well, not to mention revenge, and both have an antagonist who thinks he's so smart and so in control of "the game."  Even with those similarities though, they are very different stories. For July I'm thinking of another read-along, perhaps a play but not Shakespeare, perhaps a short novel. Happy Reading!!

My Shots - Nature Photography Day

Image
The North American Nature Photography Association was founded in 1994 to celebrate the art form and protect the subject of their photography.  Through their efforts, they ensure access to public lands will continue to exist for nature enthusiasts. I recently enjoyed nature by the river. Peace. Days of the Year

Science is Fun Fridays!

Tiehm's buckwheat is only found in a few acres of Esmeralda County here in Nevada.  A recent proposal from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, in response to a petition from the Center of Biological Diversity, seeks to protect this plant from a gigantic lithium mine. This area of Rhyolite Ridge holds the largest known lithium and boron deposit in North America. Being an Endangered Species won't stop the mine, but it will make things more difficult for their environmental impact review, which has already been delayed. The CBD argues that nearly 60% of the plant's habitat will be impacted during phase 1 alone, and up to 90% in phase 2.  "Tiehm's buckwheat shouldn't be wiped off the face of the Earth by an open-pit mine," said Nevada state director, Patrick Donnelly. The ridge also sits in a transition zone between the high desert and lower Mojave, so it is a crucial area for studying the effects of climate change. IFLScience

Reno Food Week

Showing love for local businesses!  Last night was the finale. Each post showing a visit to a participating location earns a raffle ticket. To start, we tried a new place called Teriyaki Madness. On Monday, we met up with my cousins for some pizza and beer. Noble Pie Pizza Parlor and Pinon Bottle Co.  They have draft options as well. Other places we've visited in the past: Frey Ranch Distillery Ryan's Saloon and Broiler Best burger in town. The Union, in Carson City. And my favorite brewery, IMBIB. We'll see if I win anything!

My Shots - Eagle Lake

I didn't have my camera when we went down to the water, so it's a series of shots from the campground. Noon Afternoon Sunset
