Science is Fun Fridays!
This year, for the first time since 1803, a double brood emergence will take place.
Brood XIX, with a 13 year life cycle; and Brood XIII, with a 17 year cycle.
18 states will be affected, from Michigan and Wisconsin down to Alabama and Georgia, but not necessarily a lot of overlap.
But we're talking TRILLIONS of cicadas. They are expected sometime in May to late June, and will be around for about a month or so before they die.
It's not just about the numbers though, it's the noise. With this many, altogether, it could be deafening.
There's also a sidenote about wearing a raincoat....apparently they "pee in jet streams like elephants."
I'm so glad to be a Nevadan. :-)
