Science is Fun Fridays!

This is Hot Creek, flowing from the Upper Owens.

It was a little warm here, but farther down is the Geological Site.

Groundwater heated by subsurface bodies of molten rock reaches the surface and combines with the cooler creek water.

This pool looked very warm.

Little Hot Creek was not just a little hot.

As we headed back home we stopped at Travertine Hot Springs.

"Travertine" is a form of limestone deposited around mineral springs.

60 tons had been mined from this site and used to build the interior facings of San Francisco City Hall.
