Animal Life - Hellgate Osprey

Welcome to Missoula, Montana!

Iris laid her first egg in the beginning of May but it was taken by a raven!

She laid a second egg on May 8.

While the nest appears to be in a busy location, it's also only 50 feet away from the Clark Fork River, so it's an ideal location for the osprey.  They are fishing birds, after all, and they can dive down 3 feet for shallow swimming prey.

Like many nesting pairs, they stay paired across seasons and return to the same nest after migration.  Her first mate, Stanley, did not return in 2016 though, so she began nesting with Louis.
