My Shots - Wood and Rock

Image
We took a drive through Greenville, still devastated and recovering from the fire.  A few scenes caught my attention, but I didn't want to photograph their loss like that.  So we found a reservoir to turn off at. I heard some scratching in the log here so I took a look. When I proved to be safe, he came out a little more. Sunday night was Sevendust.  They'll forever be one of my favorite live acts. Not my best seats or shots though.

My Shots - The Past Week

Image
Just a few random shots from the past week, starting with our drive up to Virginia City for my birthday night. Downtown for dinner with Mom. Spirits tasting with my cousins at Seven Troughs Speakeasy. And beers with a friend.  Record Street Brewing opened up in the old Alpine Glass Co building.

My Shots - Some Pub Talk

Image
Random table at a bar and music venue we used to frequent.  I'm still bummed that they've closed - the scene hasn't been the same around here since.  I saw one of the best rock shows of my whole life there, played music trivia with my Pa...memories.   Fun restroom at a hole in the wall bar downtown.  The bar itself isn't as much of a dive as the motel next door to it.  I'll be honest, it was mostly 'Buffy' that makes me love this. Local brewery featuring local art.  I love the breweries in town, but Hubby isn't much of a beer drinker, so I have to run off and do tastings with friends. And from our favorite Irish pub, with one of the best burgers in town!  Home of the team I played softball for this spring.  :-) Feel free to share your own pub shots!  Cheers!!

My Shots - Newsted

Image
April 26, 2013 - I saw one of the best shows of my life. Jason Newsted, once the bassist for Metallica, on tour for his new album. Heavy Metal Music. That's right, front and center!! In this moment, he was playing the intro to "My Friend of Misery." In the first photo you may notice his long chain necklace.  At the end of the show, he took that off. AND HE PUT IT AROUND MY NECK!!! My heart still races when I think of that.  It was a fangirl moment for sure. And here it is! \m/

My Shots - Flat Stanley

Image
My best friend is a special education teacher in Spokane, and she asked me to be part of their Flat Stanley project.  Take a few photos, talk about my hometown. Since she was with us for Halloween, my friend suggested I mention Nevada Day, since they don't have a Washington Day.  I also talked about some history and some events that make Reno fun.  Of course I had to take Miss Stanley downtown! I added a filter to lighten it up so you could see her better.  As a kid, we always enjoyed the arch more at night with the lights turned on. The idea comes from this book, written in 1964.  Flat Stanley has worldwide adventures, and so the project is meant to not only improve reading skills, but to foster an interest in learning about different people and different places.

My Shots - Happiness Happens

Image
August is Happiness Happens month, a time for us to acknowledge that "happiness happens one small moment at a time and it's our job to recognize those moments when they happen." As Kurt Vonnegut said: I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is." So I make sure to appreciate the beauty and relaxation of a day at the river.   And I love those purple flowers. I smile at my sweet pups as they enjoy a nap. Drives around the desert with Hubby make my heart happy. Well, Hubby makes my heart happy.  :-) Also camping with loved ones, Seester Time, sunsets and stars... What's something that brings you happiness? Days of the Year

My Shots - Christmas Spirit

Image
Gingerbread Village with Seester. The treehouse is mine - as is the Hamm's. We're in the slow process of moving this month and next, so setting up a Christmas tree seems like a silly thing to do.  But I stopped at my mom's house. My first Christmas ornament. And she said this one was my dad's. Feel free to share some of your festive photos!

My Shots - Eagle Lake

Image
I didn't have my camera when we went down to the water, so it's a series of shots from the campground. Noon Afternoon Sunset

My Shots - In Honor of Burning Man

Image
Today would be Tutu Tuesday out on the playa, but there is no Burning Man this year, everything's been cancelled.  There will be a  Burn Night though - live from home on September 5. I've posted a small throwback to 2018  Here  so this time I'm pulling from our first trip in 2011. Road to the Man. The pier. The Temple. Slip n' Slide at the Duck Pond! My camera was not very good with night shots... "Use the door!" Thunderdome on Bunny Night. The Lamplighters. The Burning Man community is doing a lot to try and help the small town of Gerlach - they rely on Burning Man travelers to make money, and without them coming through, on top of Coronavirus losses, they'll be hurting this year. Anyone who tells you this is just a hippie drug party in the desert, you can be sure they've never been.  It's also not like a Coachella festival - it's an event that asks you to participate rather than just walk through, for the fun and the work.  You can voluntee...
