BIFFER MINISTRIES Doctrine:  That anyone who plays, enjoys, or understands music can enjoy everlasting life. Precepts:  1. Belief in Rock and Roll as the gospel signifying good news. 2. Belief in long hair as portrayed by Jesus Christ. 3. Belief in that the Beatles were the resurrected singers of the Psalms. 4. Belief in that everyday is a good day. 5. Belief in that Rock and Roll will never die. 6. Belief in that a musician who plays from the heart hears the music he plays, and he plays it with love. I wanted to share this religion that Pa started - he became ordained through the Universal Life Church and even officiated a few marriages as Reverend Biff. Yesterday was the 4th anniversary of his passing, and I felt it necessary to celebrate him on my own blog.  A friend commented about the thought of losing the people who molded you....and there is an emptiness.  So much of who I am is because of my dad - but with that, there's al...

The alpha Monoceratids meteor shower typically lasts about 10 days, and peak viewing was expected last night around 11:50pm ET in North America. The outburst had been forecast by Peter Jenniskens, who also expected the shower in 1995 based on "estimations of the movements of cloud particles" left behind by a comet.  He believes we are passing through a thick section of the tail of this unknown comet, which is similar to 1995, when about 400 meteors were visible in an hour.   Meteor showers are named for the constellations from which they appear to come from.  Monoceros is Greek for unicorn, and can be found next to Orion.   IFLScience

Music Tasting 5

Feral Roots album cover This week the Grammy nominations were released, and I spent some time listening to the songs for Best Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance. Now I want to look at nominated albums.  As for Best Record, I have listened to Lizzo's, and that was good stuff.  Billie Eilish has good songs, but I haven't gone through the whole album yet. But I'm most interested in Best Rock Album: Bring Me the Horizon - amo Cage the Elephant - Social Cues The Cranberries - In the End I Prevail - Trauma Rival Sons - Feral Roots I have a feeling The Cranberries could win for the memory of Dolores O'Riordan, but the Rival Sons have had a bit of radio play for their first major label release.  I've felt that they're good rock, but a tad expected.  They follow the rock rules, nothing terrible, but nothing special.  Maybe that's just radio though. My Shots - Some Pub Talk

Random table at a bar and music venue we used to frequent.  I'm still bummed that they've closed - the scene hasn't been the same around here since.  I saw one of the best rock shows of my whole life there, played music trivia with my Pa...memories.   Fun restroom at a hole in the wall bar downtown.  The bar itself isn't as much of a dive as the motel next door to it.  I'll be honest, it was mostly 'Buffy' that makes me love this. Local brewery featuring local art.  I love the breweries in town, but Hubby isn't much of a beer drinker, so I have to run off and do tastings with friends. And from our favorite Irish pub, with one of the best burgers in town!  Home of the team I played softball for this spring.  :-) Feel free to share your own pub shots!  Cheers!!

Taking the internet by storm this week was Narwhal, the so called unicorn puppy. Narwhal was rescued in Missouri - Mac's Mission focuses on dogs with special needs or with rare health issues, but there is no indication that Narwhal's tail is any sort of problem. The tail is not connected to anything and has no real use.  It doesn't wag, and it doesn't appear to bother Narwhal in the slightest. He is not yet up for adoption, but based on the social media responses, they don't think there will be any issues finding him a home. Isn't he just adorable!? IFLScience

Country music has long been male led, but now more women are speaking up about equal play and pay - the awards directors threw together female powered performances, and for the first time, a female won Musician of the Year. (Jenee Fleenor) But as Jennifer Nettles points out, they're not done fighting for their place.
